Get your Super Bowl game-on with these fun recipes

Whether you like football or not, most of us will be enjoying Super Bowl Sunday in one way or another.

According to a story I read recently, 20 percent of the people watching the Big Game are only watching it for the commercials. I've also heard people say they only watch it for the half-time show. It'll be the talk in offices everywhere following the big game, people will be chatting about what their favorite commercial is and the not-so-hot ones. They'll talk about what they thought the highlight of the half-time show was and how many bloops there may have been.

The Big Game will have some picking their favorite team to win, or if you're like me and don't have a favorite, you'll pick a team just to get in on the fun.
Some will be watching because they have a friendly office wager going on and want to root for their (hopefully) winning team.

You can even predict which team you think will win and what the final score will be on this site.

Some will have friends and family over as they watch the game, maybe even have a beer or two and enjoy some laughs. But one thing that's for sure, there will be lots of food in living rooms all across the country as we gather around the television.

Retailers have been advertising meat, cheese and fruit trays for weeks. Your local grocery deli's are offering up buckets of chicken wings, strips and BBQ ribs. You'll find cakes shaped like footballs and others decorated with football helmets.

If you're like me, you're already planning on what you can make in your own kitchen - something that both fun and delicious.

Whatever you decide to do this coming #Super Bowl Sunday - make it fun and make it safe.

And to help with that fun, McCormick has these great tips on how you can show your team spirit - no matter which team you're rooting for.

Use this Team Color Guide to whip up some team pride cupcakes!

I'm thinking quick and simple for this Sunday game day. Here's a couple recipes that will be quick and can save you time in the kitchen. And we don't want to forget about the kids in all the fun. This recipe is not only quick but sure to please the kids - big and small.

Blue Cheese-Onion Steak Bites

Ingredients
  • 3 large onions, thinly sliced into rings
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 12 garlic cloves, minced
  • 4 beef tenderloin steaks (6 ounces each)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 loaf (10-1/2 ounces) French bread baguette, cut into 1/4-inch slices
  • SPREAD:
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup (4 ounces) crumbled blue cheese
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
Directions
In a large skillet, saute onions in butter until onions are softened. Reduce heat to medium-low; cook, stirring occasionally, for 30 minutes or until onions are golden brown. Add garlic; cook 1 minute longer.
  • Meanwhile, sprinkle beef with salt and pepper. Using long-handled tongs, moisten a paper towel with cooking oil and lightly coat the grill rack.
  • Grill steaks, covered, over medium heat or broil 4 in. from the heat for 5-7 minutes on each side or until meat reaches desired doneness (for medium-rare, a meat thermometer should read 145°; medium, 160°; well-done, 170°). Cut into thin slices.
  • Place bread on ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 400° for 4-6 minutes or until lightly browned.
  • Meanwhile, place the cream cheese, blue cheese, salt and pepper in a food processor; cover and process until blended. Spread each bread slice with 1 teaspoon cheese mixture; top with steak and onions. Yield: 4 dozen.
